If you, like me, believe that January and February hold a special kind of magic, I wholeheartedly recommend immersing yourself in the Copenhagen Light Festival, set to return from January 30 to February 22, 2026. Read on for the details:

As we embrace the coldest and darkest months of the year, the Copenhagen Light Festival once again brightens our city. It offers a splendid opportunity to venture outside, even when the instinct might be to huddle under a cozy blanket. But trust me—once you’ve taken a stroll through the illuminated displays, you’ll appreciate that warm embrace all the more.
Even now, visitors can catch a preview of the festival. On January 15, three captivating installations were unveiled at Vestre Kirkegård, where they will shine brightly every evening from 5 PM to 10 PM. This tranquil cemetery presents an ideal setting for a reflective evening walk, allowing you to soak in the ethereal glow of the light works amidst serene surroundings.
Beginning January 30, the light installations will illuminate various corners of Copenhagen, encouraging residents and visitors alike to rediscover the city in a dazzling new light. You may find beauty in places you typically pass without a second thought.
For those keen to delve deeper into the artistry, I recommend booking one of the guided tours. These tours not only unveil the histories and inspirations behind each installation but also enhance your understanding and appreciation of the artworks. Additionally, participants can look forward to engaging events such as Light Runs and Silent Dance Walks, which blend movement, music, and light—a fantastic way to experience the city with not just your eyes, but your entire being.
If you need a compelling reason to embrace the brisk winter air, this festival is it.
