At one time, I believed that the most passionate opponents of the notion that their autistic children could overcome certain challenges were, surprisingly, the parents themselves.
That belief has faded. Understandably, it can be devastating to confront the possibility that your child’s future could be brighter, especially after you have navigated the harrowing landscape of parental despair—grappling with harsh realities, managing coping strategies, and seeking support through every available resource. This is the only path laid out by the established system. I speak from personal experience, having walked this road myself when my son received his diagnosis at the Bispebjerg Child Psychiatric Center.
