It is important that all people with bowel cancer receive help and support to exercise.

Bente Klarlund answers questions from readers. This time about sleep problems and exercise.

Why can’t I fall asleep?

Susanne: I’m writing to you because I’ve had trouble falling asleep for a long time. And I always wake up during the night, at least three times. I’m 56 years old and live a fairly healthy life. I’ve tried reading up on what it takes to get better sleep habits, but I’m having trouble finding concrete advice that fits my situation. Can you help me?

Bente Klarlund: What can you do to fall asleep when you lie awake at night? One of my friends listens to Jørgen Leth because he has a soothing voice. Others find peace by focusing on their breathing or by mentally scanning their body from tip to toe. You can also listen to soothing music or nature sounds. You can think about the positive things in your life, put your worries aside by writing them down or making a list of things to do, and then put it away.
