64-year-old man dies after violent incident at Copenhell

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in a case where a 64-year-old man died after a violent incident on Refshaleøen.

A 64-year-old man died on Saturday as a result of a violent incident committed on Friday on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen.

This is reported by the Copenhagen Police on the social media X.

The police arrested a suspected perpetrator on Friday. The man is 20 years old.

According to Michael Andersen, head of duty at the Copenhagen Police, the violent incident took place at the entrance and exit to the Copenhell festival, which is currently being held on Refshaleøen.

The arrested person will be produced for constitutional questioning on Saturday evening at the Judges’ Guard in Copenhagen.

According to Ekstra Bladet, it has emerged that the 20-year-old has been charged with violence resulting in death.

According to the charges, the 20-year-old allegedly punched the deceased man in the head with a hard fist on Friday evening at around 10:10 p.m.

The 64-year-old man fell over, lost consciousness, suffered several fractures to his face and a hemorrhage on the right side of his brain.

The 20-year-old pleads not guilty to the charges, writes Ekstra Bladet.

The judge has chosen to impose a naming ban on both the accused and the deceased man.

Despite protests from journalists in attendance, the judge also chose to close the doors to the court hearing after the charges had been read aloud.

This means that it is not possible for the public to gain insight into what the man might explain and what evidence the police have against him.

The prosecutor says that there are still several witnesses who need to be questioned and re-questioned, it is said.

The deceased man’s relatives have been notified.

Jeppe Nissen, festival manager for Copenhell, writes in an email to TV 2 that the festival is making all resources available to assist the police in the investigation.

“We are completely devastated and send our thoughts first and foremost to the victim’s family and relatives,” he writes.
