Danish Defense Attaché Advocates for Instructors to Train Ukrainian Soldiers
In an insightful interview with Berlingske, Jens Hjort, Denmark’s defense attaché in Kyiv, has put forth a compelling suggestion: the deployment of instructors to Ukraine to enhance the training of soldiers.
Hjort’s remarks come amidst ongoing challenges in Ukraine’s military efforts, where a shortage of troops has led to the unfortunate necessity of sending instructors into combat. This shift has reportedly resulted in a decline in the quality of training for new recruits, a concern raised by Hjort and highlighted by Berlingske.
“It would make sense to bring instructors into Ukraine and provide training in a more efficient manner than we’ve managed in Britain,” Hjort stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
While he did not explicitly name Danish instructors for this critical role, it is worth noting that Denmark has been actively contributing instructors to programs in the UK since the onset of the conflict. Notably, Danish trainers have participated in the Interflex operation in England, where they’ve focused on essential skills such as live-fire shooting and foundational soldiering techniques for Ukrainian troops.
As the war between Russia and Ukraine drags into its fourth year, Hjort observes a potential shift in momentum. He expressed to Berlingske that the current dynamics of the conflict appear to be changing, hinting at a possible turning point.
