Female cyclist dies after right-turn accident
Copenhagen West Police are working to clarify the circumstances of the fatal right-turn accident.
A female cyclist was killed in an accident with a right-turning truck in Hvidovre Municipality on Thursday morning, the police said. The truck hit the cyclist at an intersection between the roads Stamholmen and Avedøreholmen. She was 18 years old.
The police immediately announced on Thursday morning that the cyclist’s condition was serious, and later in the day it was announced that she had died. Pictures from the scene show that both rescue workers from the Capital Emergency Services, an ambulance and an emergency medical vehicle from the Capital Region, and police officers from the Copenhagen West Region Police were working at the scene of the accident. A truck with Polish license plates was stationary.
The area, which is located in the southern part of Hvidovre Municipality, is home to a number of businesses, but no housing. There is a lot of truck traffic in the area on weekdays, and many people come to work at the area’s businesses every day.
On Thursday afternoon, the police reported that the driver of the truck remains under arrest. The police have not provided any details about the circumstances of the accident, but authorities and organizations have for years focused on the dangerous situations that can arise when heavy traffic turns right.
