This week’s Københavnersnude features the insightful Laura Adria Kamariza Hermansen, founder of Series Dater and author of the Dating Dictionary. Laura delves into the complexities of love and relationships, aiming to unpack the patterns we often find ourselves repeating. Her approach is rooted in honesty, curiosity, and creating meaningful conversations that encourage self-reflection about our actions and their impact on others. What began as a modest Instagram initiative has blossomed into a vibrant community where individuals can speak openly about the challenges of love. Join us as we explore Laura’s Copenhagen.

LoveCopenhagen: What are you currently working on?
Laura Adria Kamariza Hermansen (LAKH): At the moment, I’m gearing up for a new season of The Serial Dater Podcast and brainstorming some fresh initiatives for Series Dater’s social media. I’m keeping the details a bit under wraps for now, but I promise there are some exciting developments on the horizon—both virtual and possibly in person come the new year.

LoveCopenhagen: Where do you call home?
Laura Adria Kamariza Hermansen (LAKH): I reside in Østerbro with my small family. The charm of this neighborhood is its ideal blend of serenity and urban vibrancy—just moments from the heart of Copenhagen, yet allowing space to breathe. Here, I can stroll by the water or meander through Fælledparken, and in just a few minutes, I find myself caught in the city’s lively pulse. It truly feels like the best of both worlds.

LoveCopenhagen: What are your go-to spots?
LAKH: I often find myself enjoying walks at Kastellet or wandering through the old villa quarters in Østerbro. I have a particular passion for admiring homes; each structure tells a unique story, radiating its own charm.

LoveCopenhagen: Where do you indulge in coffee?
LAKH: Audo House in Nordhavn is a favorite of mine—it’s the perfect blend of a working environment and a great cup of coffee, set in a beautiful space. I also enjoy brewing my own coffee and soaking up the morning sun on a bench, often striking up delightful conversations with locals from Østerbro as they share snippets of their lives with me.

LoveCopenhagen: Where do you typically dine?
LAKH: I have an ongoing penchant for a quick bite from Comé Rice Kitchen. Additionally, I often stop by Asger for a Smash burger or head over to Ugood for some delightful Ugandan dishes. Of course, nothing beats the comfort of a home-cooked meal shared with my family.

LoveCopenhagen: Where do you enjoy a night out?
LAKH: I tend to embrace summer nightlife, frequenting various events throughout the city. I can groove to just about any venue as long as the beats are Afrobeat, Amapiano, RnB, or house—and, naturally, with good company. I’ve recently discovered a cozy local gem called Kassen, run by Moses. Though well-known, it’s new to me, and its friendly atmosphere truly feels like a tight-knit community. DJ AKP and LADJ also create unforgettable vibes that keep me coming back.

LoveCopenhagen: What inspires you in the city?
LAKH: I find inspiration in places that offer panoramic views while allowing room for detailed observation. I relish scenarios where I can gaze over the city, appreciating both its architecture and the small details that often go unnoticed. Watching the flow of people through the city or letting my eyes wander over the water brings me a sense of peace and ignites my creativity.

LoveCopenhagen: Do you have a favorite spot in Copenhagen?
LAKH: I don’t subscribe to the idea of having just one favorite spot. Instead, I cherish wandering through Copenhagen, continually discovering new facets of the city.

LoveCopenhagen: When did you last fall in love with Copenhagen?
LAKH: It was during the summer while I was paddling in Nordhavn. There’s something about being in my element, surrounded by 25-degree warmth and water. The city bursts to life after a lengthy winter, and the vibrant energy is infectious.

LoveCopenhagen: What stands out as your most cherished memory in Copenhagen?
LAKH: My most treasured memory is from October 31, 2023, when I welcomed my daughter into the world. Walking home from Rigshospitalet through Fælledparken, I felt vividly aware of my surroundings, as if everything around me was magnified. It was a moment where the world felt both expansive and safe, carrying my little family with a profound sense of love.

LoveCopenhagen: What’s your best recommendation for an unforgettable experience in Copenhagen?
LAKH: Explore Copenhagen alongside someone special, sampling new cafes, restaurants, rooftop bars, or parks that you haven’t yet experienced. Alternatively, something completely different—like my recent visit to Ler Croquis with a friend was a wonderfully entertaining experience.

LoveCopenhagen: While Copenhagen is fantastic, what do you think the city is missing?
LAKH: A few 24/7 options beyond just bars would be a worthwhile addition. Evenings during the week can feel rather quiet here, and a bit more life would be refreshing.

LoveCopenhagen: What’s the soundtrack to your Copenhagen experience?
LAKH: Currently, my playlist features a blend of tracks that resonate deeply with me, including “Another One” by Fire Raka, “The Seed (2.0)” by The Roots, “Fine By Myself” by Odeal, and classics like “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley, which will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you, Laura, for sharing your unique vision of Copenhagen with us.
