A man made a U-turn on the Sallingsund Bridge and was hit by a truck and trapped, police said.

A man is in critical condition on Wednesday evening after a traffic accident on the Sallingsund Bridge earlier in the day.

This is stated by the head of the Central and West Jutland Police, Anders Bøje Hansen.

The accident has caused major traffic problems throughout the day, and one lane has been closed for several hours, he says.

“It is open to all traffic again,” the duty officer informs.

The accident happened when a van was hit in the side by a truck, the duty officer says.

“The van is driving across the Sallingsund Bridge, when the driver gets to Salling, he makes a U-turn. A truck comes up behind him and drives directly into the driver’s side of the van,” says Anders Bøje Hansen.

The police have not had the opportunity to question the man as his condition is critical.

“He gets stuck and is badly injured. He is then taken by ambulance to Viborg Hospital,” says the duty officer.

His relatives have been notified, the police say.

When the queue was at its peak, there was a queue of between six and eight kilometers at Mors, says the duty manager.

The Sallingsund Bridge connects the island of Mors with the Salling peninsula.
