Nature Fund invests more money in pool for better marine nature

Municipalities and other local actors can apply for money for projects that strengthen Danish marine nature.

Several million kroner have been added to an application pool that will work to restore and strengthen Danish marine nature.

The Danish Nature Foundation has posted an additional 14.5 million kroner in the pool, so that a total of 43.5 million kroner can now be applied for.

The Ministry of the Environment writes this in a press release.

The fund can be applied for by municipalities and other local actors, and the money will be used to restore nature in Danish coastal waters, for example through more stone reefs and eelgrass beds.

Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke (S) acknowledges that the sea along the Danish coasts is challenged.

“Restoring habitats is a key tool, and in places in the country where, for example, stone reefs are established, you can see the development reverse and animal and plant life return.”

“It is therefore crucial that we can now further step up the restoration of healthy and natural environments on the seabed with help from and cooperation with the Danish Nature Foundation,” says the minister in the press release.

The fund is part of a political agreement on a Marine Nature Fund, which will restore marine nature for 500 million kroner by 2030.
