A new culinary experience has arrived on Store Kongensgade with the opening of Uni at the former Red Box location, 42. Spearheaded by Chef Takashi Saito and Sommelier Oliver Kudsk, this restaurant artfully blends Japanese gastronomy with the finest Danish ingredients, setting a new standard for quality dining.

At Uni, the guiding principles are rooted in nature and the bounty of local producers. Diners will find an array of enticing flavors on their plates, including seaweed sourced from Denmark’s shores, artisanal pasta from Jazzed on Grains, and exquisite mushrooms from Funga Farm. The kitchen focuses on umami, crafting dishes that reflect Japanese culinary traditions through a distinctly Danish lens.

The ambiance at Uni is equally integral to the dining experience. The extensive renovation of the former Red Box site has preserved its charming half-timbering and original wooden floors, blending them seamlessly with a design aesthetic that celebrates Danish craftsmanship. Warm woods and a muted color palette create a serene and sophisticated atmosphere, inviting guests to unwind in the heart of the city.

Equally important is Uni’s well-curated beverage program. The wine and cocktail selections are driven by a singular vision: taste. Eschewing rigid adherence to natural wines or conventional labels, the offerings are simply those that complement the restaurant’s lush dishes. Cocktails have been specially crafted in collaboration with the renowned cocktail bar, Victory, and the menu also features a thoughtfully chosen selection of sake and Japanese beers.

Uni aspires to redefine the restaurant experience, prioritizing authenticity over pretension. It’s a welcoming space where diners can relax and fully embrace the flavors, ambiance, and overall experience.

Uni is now open at Store Kongensgade 42.
