Politiken journalist wins talent award: “I am very surprised and enormously honored”
Politiken journalist Emilie Stein Thorsen managed to tell the human stories from East Greenland when most others were covering big politics from Nuuk in West Greenland. This has now won her an award.
When virtually the entire world made the pilgrimage to Nuuk in Greenland to cover major political agendas about Greenland’s future at the beginning of the year, Politiken’s journalist Emilie Stein Thorsen instead traveled to the small East Greenland town of Tasiilaq, which was over 600 kilometers away.
From here she wrote about a town at the bottom of all the bad statistics from Greenland. She wrote about its inhabitants marked by the worst poverty, insurmountable social problems and premature death.
