Six powerful pumps must protect against massive water masses
New pumps that can pump 50,000 liters of water per minute will strengthen Danish flood preparedness.
When heavy rainfall and rising groundwater threaten to drown parts of Denmark, new so-called high-capacity pumps must be deployed.
This week, a contract was signed for the purchase of six new pumps that can be deployed in the event of floods. The Ministry of Community Safety and Emergency Management writes in a press release.
The purchase is the first equipment acquisition in connection with the political agreement on the emergency preparedness area, which was concluded in January.
The pumps, which can pump up to 50,000 liters of water per minute, will be placed at the Danish Emergency Management Agency’s emergency centers and are expected to be put into use next year.
Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Torsten Schack Pedersen (V) points out that the climate will become more severe and wetter in the coming years.
“Therefore, it is important that the rescue services have powerful pumps that can quickly remove the water,” he says in the statement.
The pumps are purchased by the Ministry of Defence’s Materiel and Procurement Agency, FMI, on behalf of the Danish Emergency Management Agency.
