Sunday may be soaking wet on Zealand and the islands

A low pressure area will pass over Denmark on Sunday and pose a risk of heavy rain and wind, especially in eastern Denmark.

Sunday could be a particularly rainy affair if you are in eastern Denmark.

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning about the risk of heavy rain on Zealand, Lolland, Falster, Møn, Langeland and Southeast Funen.

Heavy rain is defined as at least 30 millimeters of rain in 24 hours.

According to DMI, the showers may be accompanied by thunder.

If you bring an umbrella, hold on tight. Sunday can also be windy.

Light to strong winds can be expected from the west and northwest, with gales in places along the coasts, it says.

The wind makes it feel pretty cool, it seems.

“Since the temperature only reaches between 12 and 15 degrees, Whitsun will feel more like autumn than summer,” writes DMI.

It is a low pressure system passing the country from the west and southwest that is responsible for the rainy and windy weather on Sunday.

In Copenhagen, which is currently hosting the Distortion festival, the risk report applies from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

When the low pressure has moved further east, it will clear up somewhat, according to DMI.

This means that the outlook for Monday, Whitsun, is initially looking more dry and sunny.

On the day when 97,500 participants in this year’s Royal Run pull on their running gear, sun, clouds and a few showers are expected.

Like Sunday, Monday is also shaping up to be quite windy.

“It will continue to be quite windy, but at the end of the day the wind will slowly start to subside,” says the report from meteorologist on duty Mette Zhang:

“With temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees, it will feel like a somewhat cool Whitsunday”
