Syrian couple convicted of kidnapping their children from their place of residence

Two children were abducted from their home in Vejle by their parents in February 2024. The parents were sentenced on Tuesday.

A Syrian couple is facing a prison sentence for abducting their two children from a residence near Vejle and taking them to Germany in February last year.

The verdict was handed down on Tuesday in the Court in Kolding, according to the South East Jutland Police in a press release.

The abduction took place on February 15th of last year, when the 38-year-old woman picked up the children from a place of residence near Vejle, where the children were forcibly placed.

The mother was to have unsupervised contact with the children, who were then 7 and 11 years old.

The couple then drove with the children to Germany, where the mother stayed with the children until she was detained by German police on April 30, 2024.

In the case, the court has sentenced the woman to six months in prison, while the 40-year-old father was sentenced to eight months in prison. The Syrian couple have also been given a warning about deportation.

A 41-year-old Syrian man who helped the couple with the kidnapping by lending them his car has been sentenced to 30 days in prison and also received a deportation warning.
