Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen Faces Lengthy Recovery After Knee Injury

December 21—In a blow to FC Barcelona, defender Andreas Christensen has been diagnosed with a partial cruciate ligament tear, the club revealed on Sunday. According to reports from Spanish media, the injury could sideline the Danish centre-back for several months.

Christensen’s recent troubles began in October when a calf strain forced him to miss two weeks of play. Unfortunately, during Saturday’s training, he twisted his left knee, prompting the LaLiga champions to release a statement about his condition.

“After conducting tests on the player, we have opted for a conservative treatment plan. His recovery timeline will depend on how he progresses,” the statement read.

The 29-year-old has been a key player for Denmark, featuring in every match of the World Cup qualifiers. During this campaign, he notched up one goal and two assists, helping his team secure second place in their group to advance to the continental playoffs.

Denmark is set to face North Macedonia on March 26 in a crucial playoff, with a victory leading them to a final showdown against either the Czech Republic or Ireland—battling for a coveted spot in the upcoming World Cup in June.

As the LaLiga leaders, Barcelona will look to maintain their momentum in today’s match against Villarreal.
