Investigation into spiral case is delayed

Lack of access and longer waiting times for access to materials are delaying the Greenlandic investigation into the spiral case.

The Greenlandic investigation into the so-called spiral case will be delayed for four months. This is stated on the Greenlandic government’s website. The postponement is due, among other things, to lack of access to material.

“It is of course a shame that the investigation is now being delayed. But it is more important to me that the work is done thoroughly and that the experts are satisfied with the product they deliver,” says Greenland’s Minister for Justice and Equality, Naaja H. Nathanielsen (IA).

Two investigations into the so-called spiral case are underway: one investigation is joint between Denmark and Greenland, while Greenland itself is investigating whether human rights violations have occurred.

It is also being investigated whether there may be violations that meet the definition of genocide, the government writes on its website. Both investigations were expected to be completed by September, but the Greenlandic one has now been postponed.
