Danish boy receives special honor for raising money for Ukrainian children affected by war.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyj, presented a special award to Jens Fogh Thomsen from Biersted in North Jutland on Thursday in Aarhus.

The 11-year-old Danish boy is the first foreigner to receive the honor.

Since last year, he has been voluntarily making handmade Easter decorations. Through the sales, he has raised over 34,000 kroner for school bags and school supplies for Ukrainian children affected by the war.

Zelenskyj writes this on several social media, where a video of the session is attached, where Jens Fogh Thomsen is clearly touched as he shakes hands and is thanked.

“Jens is the first foreigner to receive this award. We will always be grateful to everyone who sincerely sympathizes with our people and helps Ukraine. I am deeply grateful to Jens – on behalf of all our people and the children of Ukraine,” he writes in the post.

Volodymyr Zelenskyj was in Aarhus on Thursday to mark the opening of the Danish EU presidency, where Denmark will manage meetings between member states and drive EU policy forward for six months.

This is the eighth time that Denmark has held the presidency. It will last for six months and will mean that Denmark will host summits, ministerial meetings and a large number of international visitors.
