Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Launches Strikes on US Bases in Kuwait and Bahrain
In a striking development overnight on Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the execution of a coordinated operation featuring missiles and drones targeting US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain. This statement, reported by state-run Press TV and relayed by Reuters, marks a significant escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States.
According to the IRGC, these attacks are a direct response to recent US actions against Iran, underscoring the fragile state of relations between the two nations. In a terse warning, the Revolutionary Guard declared that any violation of the recent ceasefire would breach the Islamabad Memorandum, consequently suspending all diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving their longstanding hostilities.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), established earlier in June, was intended to lay the groundwork for a political framework designed to facilitate a more thorough cessation of hostilities between the countries.
In a pointed remark, the Revolutionary Guards cautioned that any further “aggression” from the United States would be met with a formidable retaliation. The IRGC claimed to have successfully targeted eight “important US military facilities” at the Ali al-Salem base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet’s naval base at Port Salman in Bahrain.
In the midst of escalating military activity, Kuwait’s army confirmed on X that air defense systems had been activated in response to these missile and drone strikes. They reassured the public that any loud explosions heard were, in fact, the result of air defense systems intercepting incoming threats.
Just before midnight Danish time, the US military’s Central Command (Centcom) announced their own retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets, referring to these actions as a necessary “direct response” to what they described as Iran’s “continued aggression.” Adding to the rhetoric, US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to accuse Iran of breaching the ceasefire agreement.
As tensions continue to mount, the world watches closely, uncertain of what the next chapter in this conflict will unfold.
