Who is the mysterious ‘Mr. X’ from abroad?

A question that German Sky Sports has been chasing the answer to recently in connection with RB Leipzig’s hunt for a new head coach – and now it turns out that the mysterious figure has a Danish passport.

According to Sky Sports, several different names have been in the spotlight for the position at the Red Bull club.

Cesc Fabregas from Como, Oliver Glasner from Crystal Palace and Ole Werner from Werder Bremen should all have been in play for the job. And then there is the unknown ‘Mr. X’.

A foreign candidate, whose name German Sky Sports previously did not know – on Tuesday they can reveal that he is Danish and has his way in the Super League.

“The previously unknown Mr. X from abroad is called Jacob Neestrup. Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer has been eyeing the 37-year-old for some time,” writes Sky Sport on Tuesday.

They also write that Schäfer was already in contact with the FC Copenhagen coach during his time as sporting director at Wolfsburg.

Jacob Neestrup has barely finished celebrating the fact that he won ‘The Double’ with the capital club this past season and has been heavily rumored to be in the Bundesliga recently.

However, it has been Neestrup’s former sporting director at FC Copenhagen Peter ‘PC’ Christiansen, who has long been reported to be interested in bringing him to Wolfsburg.

On Monday, local media outlet Wolfsburg Allgemeine also reported that Neestrup is still in the running, and that the process will now be sped up at the German club.

“Things are likely to move quickly now that the final talks with the future coach of the Lower Saxony club may take place at the end of this week,” the media outlet wrote about the job, which Neestrup has been named by several media outlets as the favorite to take over.

The 37-year-old FCK boss extended his contract with FC Copenhagen in October last year, so that it now runs until the summer of 2029.
