Copenhagen store forced to close one year before 150th anniversary

After 149 years, hardware store Møller & Mammen had to turn the key on Monday. Politiken was on the day, which was “traumatizing” for owner Jan Beregaard Pedersen.

A small crowd has gathered in front of the hardware store Møller & Mammen on the corner of Adelgade and Gothersgade on Monday morning in Copenhagen. The summer sun casts a happy light down on the street, where traffic is chugging along. Some are wearing work trousers and have hardened hands, while others are in high heels and light summer clothes.

Two carpenters pass the time by cutting strawberries in half with their hobby knives before the berries end up in their mouths. They need a fitting for a project they are doing in town.
