Gørlev Police Probe Suspicious Death; Six Arrested
In the dim light of early Friday morning, police arrived at a residence in Gørlev, located in West Zealand, where a suspicious death has prompted an ongoing investigation.
According to Benjamin Rasch, the duty officer for the Central and West Zealand Police, six foreign men have been taken into custody in connection with this case.
The investigation centers around a man whose lifeless body was discovered late Friday night in a home shared by several craftsmen. Rasch reported that the deceased is a foreign national who had made Denmark his permanent residence. However, details regarding his age and nationality remain undisclosed, and authorities have yet to notify his next of kin.
“We are pursuing this case as a suspicious death,” Rasch stated, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding the circumstances; “At this point, we cannot confirm exactly what occurred.”
Crucially, he added, “We cannot rule out the possibility that a crime has taken place.”
Police were alerted to the situation shortly after midnight on Friday, with the initial report filed by a person residing at the same address. Emergency responders attempted first aid upon their arrival, but unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the discovery, the police arrested six men, all of whom are also foreign nationals. Rasch noted, “We have six individuals in custody. Currently, they are being charged with violating the Criminal Code. The exact nature of the incident remains unclear, which is why we are proceeding with these charges.”
It remains uncertain whether there will be any formal proceedings in the case as the investigation unfolds.
As for the police presence at the scene, Rasch anticipated that they would remain in Gørlev for another two to three hours—perhaps longer. “We have an incident leader and supporting patrols on-site, along with an investigative team actively working,” he explained.
The investigation continues, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
