“It’s completely off the rails”: There has been an explosion in the number of vaccinations against tick-borne encephalitis
Danes are being vaccinated in large numbers against encephalitis, which can rarely be contracted after a tick bite. This is happening even though the Danish Health Authority does not recommend vaccination. The professor is skeptical.
An extremely rare but potentially very serious disease is causing tens of thousands of Danes to roll up their sleeves and get stabbed in the shoulder. They are afraid of being infected with a virus that can cause encephalitis if they are bitten by a tick in nature.
In just a few years, the number of vaccinations in Denmark against tick-borne encephalitis has exploded. This development has occurred despite the fact that the Danish Health Authority does not recommend vaccination against TBE, which is not part of the public vaccination program.
