Parents of young children in the Armed Forces may be exempt from deployments
The Danish Armed Forces would like to give its employees more flexibility and is opening up exemptions from deployments.
The Danish Defence Force will allow employees with children under two years of age to be exempt from international deployments and seagoing service lasting longer than 14 days.
This is stated by the Danish Armed Forces Personnel Command in a press release.
“This is done to meet the employees’ desire for a greater degree of flexibility in order to better balance family life with participation in international operations and seagoing service.”
The Defence Command states that this is a possibility and that it will still be necessary to take into account the task solution.
Therefore, there may be some cases where it is not possible to be exempted. This may be if the employee performs a special function and cannot be replaced.
Should ensure more flexibility
With the new initiative, the Defense Department will commit to exploring the possibilities for a parent to be exempted.
The initiative is part of the Danish Armed Forces’ HR strategy, which aims to ensure more flexibility for Danish Armed Forces employees.
It has long been known that the Danish Armed Forces have problems with recruiting and retaining employees.
Therefore, while Denmark is upgrading its military hardware, the conditions for the soldiers have also been looked at.
Last year, politicians chose to introduce the right to paid training after a number of years as a permanent sergeant or constable.
A similar scheme was scrapped in 2013.
