New Bus Route to Connect Healthcare Workers from Copenhagen to Lolland

In a move aimed at easing the strain on healthcare services, a new bus route will launch this Wednesday, providing vital transportation for general practitioners and hospital staff traveling from Copenhagen to Maribo on Lolland. This initiative, announced by Region Zealand, is designed to bolster the workforce in areas grappling with a shortage of medical professionals.

The bus will depart from Flintholm Station in Frederiksberg, making the journey to Maribo. According to Trine Birk Andersen, chair of the regional council, the hope is that this service will make working in these critical areas more appealing. “Currently, there are fewer doctors where the need is most acute. This simply isn’t sustainable,” Andersen noted.

In addition to the Maribo route, two more services will be introduced, connecting the capital to Nykøbing Sjælland and Kalundborg. Each route will offer one morning and one afternoon departure, ensuring that healthcare workers can travel conveniently. The buses will be equipped with tables, electricity, and internet access, allowing professionals to work while commuting.

These new routes will complement three existing ones that already transport hospital doctors from the Copenhagen area to hospitals in Slagelse and Nykøbing Falster. Notably, the new schemes will also extend this transportation support to general practitioners, addressing a critical gap in healthcare services.

As healthcare demands continue to rise, such initiatives are crucial in fostering a workforce ready to meet the community’s needs.
