The founder of the Bestseller Foundation, Mr. Anders Povlsen, has made a significant pledge to invest in Nigeria’s burgeoning digital economy, entertainment, and sports sectors. His commitment came during a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, accompanied by the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Hansen, and other senior Danish officials.

Povlsen, often described as Denmark’s wealthiest individual, emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between Denmark and Nigeria, particularly in the realms of technology, culture, and the creative economy. “We see immense opportunities here. The talent and creativity are undeniable—attributes we admire daily in Denmark, whether in music or fashion,” he remarked.

hinting at future engagements, Povlsen shared, “As my colleague Bosun mentioned, we are already taking our initial steps toward investing in a promising Africa.” He also expressed his enthusiasm for participating in this week’s Fashion Week in Lagos, reflecting continued support for local initiatives.

A notable part of his investment focus will be expanding his football academy in Nigeria, aiming to nurture more talent for the national teams. “Football is one key area where we hope to boost our investments,” he shared proudly, noting that his academy has already produced three players for the national team.

President Tinubu, for his part, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering an environment conducive to investment, particularly in technology and youth development. “Thank you for believing in us. We strive to partner with those who recognize the value of our youth and prioritize innovation within the digital economy,” he stated.

He highlighted the cultural and sports sectors as pivotal aspects that Nigeria is committed to nurturing, promising, “We will collaborate with you, and I assure you of our dedication to these efforts.”

In recognition of Povlsen’s belief in Nigeria, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, expressed gratitude, noting Povlsen’s prior investments in ventures like the Future Africa Early Stage Fund and Aletheia Capital. “Moreover, he owns a football club in Denmark and a football academy in Shagamu, which adds an exciting dimension to our collaboration,” Tijani remarked.

He also indicated that Denmark’s partnership with Nigeria is set to deepen, particularly in the digital economy and investment in the country’s fiber optic network. This meeting is part of broader efforts aimed at attracting foreign investment and enhancing economic cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark.

Povlsen’s visit opens doors to new prospects for trade, technology exchange, and collaboration between the private sectors of both nations, promising a fruitful relationship ahead.
