Aalborg Handball Finds Replacement for Injured Right Winger

Aalborg Handball has swiftly addressed the gap left by the unfortunate injury of right winger Patrick Wiesmach. In a strategic move, the Danish champions have secured Dutch player Alec Smit from Swiss club Pfadi Winterthur, effective immediately.

The announcement was made in a press release on Friday morning, shedding light on the club’s proactive approach. Team manager Martin Larsen explained, “Initially, we planned to take our time finding a replacement for Patrick. However, once we had the chance to evaluate Alec during training this week, we moved quickly.”

Smit, who has signed a contract to remain with the team for the rest of the season, boasts an impressive resume. At just 26 years old, he has already made 62 appearances for the Dutch national team and has previously showcased his talent in the Danish league with Sønderjyske.

Reflecting on his transition, Smit remarked, “I kept my options open since this summer, so when I received the call from Aalborg Handball, I felt quite reassured.”

This timely acquisition comes in the wake of Wiesmach’s serious shoulder injury, sustained during a Champions League match against Kolstad. The team doctor estimates that Wiesmach will be sidelined for up to nine months, underscoring the importance of Smit’s arrival.

As Aalborg Handball continues its campaign, they look forward to the impact that Smit will undoubtedly bring to the squad.
