On Friday evening in Nørrebro, a shocking incident unfolded as a 73-year-old man was assaulted, enduring multiple blows to the head with a hammer. The alarming event prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement.

Central investigation manager Jesper Schroll provided updates to Ritzau later that night, informing the public of the ongoing investigation. By early Saturday morning, Mikael Andersen, head of duty at the Copenhagen Police, confirmed that a 32-year-old suspect had been arrested in connection with the attack. Charges of qualified violence have been filed against him, and he is set to appear at a constitutional hearing later that day.

Andersen refrained from elaborating on the motive behind the assault, nor would he disclose whether there was any prior acquaintance between the victim and the alleged perpetrator. “Of course we have a picture of what happened, but we have to have him produced before we can say too much,” he remarked.

The police were alerted to the incident at 6:12 PM. Schroll noted that witnesses had come forward, reporting that two men had been involved in what appeared to be a car accident near the scene, after which one fled.

Fortunately, the 73-year-old victim remains conscious and is receiving treatment for his injuries in the emergency room. McKel Andersen reassured the community, stating there is no indication of any ongoing threat to public safety.

Following the initial report, police maintained a presence in the area, concluding their investigations by 9:30 PM. The community is left to grapple with the unsettling events of the evening as authorities work to piece together the details of this disturbing assault.
