Between December 19 and 23 of this year, at least 249 homes fell victim to burglary, according to the National Police. This marks a modest increase from the 227 incidents reported during the same period last year.
Christian Berthelsen, a police assistant and spokesperson for the National Police, noted that several factors could contribute to this uptick. The timing of holidays and people’s travel patterns leading up to Christmas often play a significant role in influencing burglary rates.
“We have also observed a steady rise in burglaries in private residences over the months leading to December,” Berthelsen explained. “Considering this trend, a slight increase in incidents during this busy time might not come as a surprise.”
It’s crucial to keep in mind that the burglary tally may fluctuate as homeowners return and discover any break-ins that may have occurred in their absence.
