This week’s Københavnersnude is the talented singer-songwriter Christian Juncker, the creative force behind the hit song Mogens & Karen. Currently, he’s busy crafting his eighth album, Stranger Mostly, and gearing up for an upcoming tour that promises to breathe new life into fresh tracks while revisiting beloved classics like Havana, Mint Green Butterfly, and Wallenberg.
LoveCopenhagen: What are you currently working on?
Juncker: After wrapping up a major band tour, I’m putting together a more intimate solo tour, while also preparing for a full-band tour come January and February. In between, I cherish my time at home when I’m not hitting the road.
LoveCopenhagen: Where do you call home?
Juncker: I reside in Brønshøj.
LoveCopenhagen: Where do you like to wander?
Juncker: I enjoy strolling around Utterslev Mose. It’s a beautiful spot with plenty of birds and fish to observe.
LoveCopenhagen: Where do you enjoy your morning coffee?
Juncker: Honestly, most of my coffee is brewed at home in the morning. However, I do venture out occasionally to Stålvand or Borgerkroen in Brønshøj. If I’m in Frederiksberg at Sound Station picking up records, there’s a quaint Italian sandwich bar nearby where I sometimes grab an espresso. I have to be careful not to overdo it on the coffee, though—it tends to make me feel a bit ill.
LoveCopenhagen: What are some of your favorite dining spots?
Juncker: There are many fantastic options. I enjoy the local Borgerkro, especially when they serve hare. Brønshøj Bistro has a cozy vibe I appreciate, and Kroghs Fiskerestaurant never disappoints. I also have a soft spot for some of the smaller establishments in the northwest, like Flere Fugle og Behov.
LoveCopenhagen: Where do you go to party?
Juncker: I don’t often go out to party, but I do enjoy attending live music events. Sometimes I’ll pop into a local pub if the mood strikes me.
LoveCopenhagen: Where do you find your inspiration?
Juncker: Inspiration strikes me in the contrasts of everyday life—like the juxtaposition of an overflowing garbage can filled with dog poop bags against the backdrop of historical spires and towers.
LoveCopenhagen: What’s your favorite spot in Copenhagen?
Juncker: It’s tough to choose just one. I have many cherished spots around Utterslev Mose, but I’d also mention Tingbjerg Ground, the view from Christiansborg towards Gl. Beach, Glyptoteket, the Trotting Track, and numerous musical venues across the city.
LoveCopenhagen: When did you last fall in love with Copenhagen?
Juncker: I find myself falling in love with this city every time the sun shines. Riding my bike across the lakes beneath blue skies or watching the sun set over Utterslev Mose never fails to capture my heart.
LoveCopenhagen: What is your fondest memory of Copenhagen?
Juncker: There’s a unique magic in those moments after a night out when you find the city quiet and seemingly all to yourself on your walk or bike ride home. I also cherish memories from my childhood visits to the old Danish Aquarium in Charlottenlund—it captivated me back then.
LoveCopenhagen: What’s your top recommendation for a Copenhagen experience?
Juncker: For me, the best experiences often come from taking a different route than usual—like opting to cycle to the right instead of the left, even if it means arriving home just five minutes later. Taking time to soak in the history, walking between the buildings, and sitting on a green bench along the way makes all the difference.
LoveCopenhagen: If you could add one thing to Copenhagen, what would it be?
Juncker: I would love to see the Odense Å flow through Copenhagen, right in my backyard, just like it did when I was a child.
LoveCopenhagen: What’s the soundtrack to your city?
Juncker: I could easily mention hundreds of records—Danish and international—that would create an ideal soundscape for exploring the city. Albums like CV Jørgensen/Sjælland, Gangway/Sitting in the Park, and anything from Lars Hug or The Stone Roses make perfect companions for a walk through Copenhagen.
