Tragic Clashes in Douala: Four Lives Lost Amid Political Tensions
In the bustling city of Douala, Cameroon’s largest metropolis, four individuals have tragically lost their lives during violent confrontations between security forces and opposition supporters. This somber news was confirmed late Monday by the city’s governor, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua.
“In these unfortunate events, we have seen the loss of four lives,” stated Governor Diboua, who also reported injuries among several members of the security forces involved.
Adding to the tension, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, leader of one of the opposition parties, has declared himself the rightful victor of the presidential election held on October 12. In a bold move before the official election results were announced, he urged his supporters to engage in peaceful demonstrations, despite an existing ban on public gatherings.
Tchiroma Bakary asserts that he garnered 54.8 percent of the votes, while most political analysts anticipate that the 92-year-old incumbent president, Paul Biya, is poised to extend his 43-year rule.
