Overdose case takes a turn: Two 16-year-old festival guests were given a drug containing fentanyl at the hospital

According to the police, two young people who were admitted with symptoms of overdose were given a preparation containing fentanyl at the hospital.

Two 16-year-old guests at Skive Festival may have been exposed to the drug fentanyl through a medical preparation they were treated with at the hospital.

This is stated by the Central and West Jutland Police in a press release.

It caused a stir when it emerged on Friday that traces of the dangerous substance had been found in the two 16-year-olds from North Jutland and Zealand, respectively.

They were both hospitalized on Thursday with symptoms of an overdose and placed in an induced coma.

The police subsequently reported that the two young people could have ingested the dangerous substance through something they drank at the festival.

But now, according to the police, it appears that there may be a natural explanation for the occurrence of the substance.

“When the drug was found in urine samples from the two 16-year-olds on Friday, it was probably because they had received the drug through a medical preparation as part of the regular treatment they both received at the hospital on Thursday,” the police write in the press release.

According to the police, during the treatment of the two young people, fentanyl was given when they were to be put on a respirator.

According to the police, the young people reacted ‘violently’ to having a tube placed down their throats.

“As the procedure states, they were given fentanyl so they could relax,” the police write.

The two young people have been discharged from the hospital again and, according to the police, have been treated correctly.

Deputy Police Inspector Henrik Glintborg does not regret that the police reacted sharply in the situation.

“When we receive information that may indicate that a dangerous substance like fentanyl may be in circulation during a major festival, we must respond responsibly.”

“We have done that in this case, and we would do the same again tomorrow,” says Henrik Glintborg in the announcement.
