In 2023, the Social Democrats rejected extending the ban on face coverings to educational institutions because it would be ‘symbolic politics’. Now, however, the party wants to. The legal spokesman responds to what has changed.

It was a flat rejection from the government when the Danish People’s Party proposed in 2023 that the so-called burqa ban from 2018 should also apply to schools and educational institutions.

Although DF reported in 2023 examples of people exploiting a loophole in the ban on covering up to be covered up in educational institutions, Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard (S) rejected the proposal.
