US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Advocates for Open Dialogue on Middle East Tensions
In a statement made on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the United States is committed to a transparent approach regarding the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. He expressed the nation’s readiness to engage in negotiations to resolve its differences with Iran. However, he lamented Iran’s lack of genuine interest in initiating talks.
These remarks were delivered during a meeting in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, as reported by Reuters. “If they are serious, we are serious,” Rubio asserted. “If they are not, we will take necessary measures to protect our interests and those of our allies.” He further clarified the central issue at hand: “The problem we face is their unwillingness to engage in meaningful discussions.”
Rubio’s visit to Manila occurs alongside a gathering of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This meeting unfolds amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, characterized by renewed hostilities and multiple confrontations between the United States and Iran.
